Cutaneous Oncology Fellowship

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center offers a one or two-year fellowship in Cutaneous Oncology which includes training in the following areas: 

  • Clinical and Translational Research, such as clinical trials in cutaneous oncology as well as an opportunity for basic research. The fellows participate in consenting, screening, enrolling, and managing patients enrolled in the various study protocols. Qualified fellows will have an opportunity to conduct laboratory research, which is study and fellow-specific.
  • Pigmented Lesion Clinic at Hillman Cancer Center. Fellows will gain experience in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with various skin cancers, including melanoma, squamous and basal cell carcinoma, adnexal and vascular tumors among others. Fellows will perform total mucocutaneous examinations and will be actively involved in staging and therapy of patients with cutaneous malignancies, including minor surgical procedures and excisions.
  • Cutaneous Lymphoma Clinic. Fellows will be trained in all aspects of cutaneous lymphomas diagnosis and management. Fellows will be actively recruiting patients with cutaneous lymphomas to participate in numerous clinical trials offered at the department. Fellows will also be involved in management of graft-vs-host disease (GVHD) using immunomodulating therapy, such as extracorporeal photopheresis. 

The Cutaneous Oncology Fellows attend various didactic conferences, including weekly resident teaching lectures, dermatopathology conferences, and journal clubs and participate in presentations at Dermatology Department Grand Rounds, Oncology Lymphoma Tumor Board, and other selected Grand Rounds. The fellows also will have an opportunity to present their work at the national and international conferences such as American Academy of Dermatology and Society for Investigative Dermatology, among others. 

Requirements
Medical Degree from recognized American medical school is required. Completion of PGY-2 is required for fellows focusing on clinical training in cutaneous oncology.
