According to the CDC, skin cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer in the US (  Researchers at Pit-Derm are committed to improving our understanding of the complex mechanisms underlying tumor growth and developing novel treatment strategies for melanoma and non-melanoma skin malignancies.

  • Dr. Buminovich’s lab is exploring the interface between the peripheral nervous system and the tumor in the skin.
  • Dr. Akilov’s lab is investigating biomarkers and tumor escape.
  • Dr. Falo’s lab is combining bioengineering with immunology to improve treatment modalities for patients with cutaneous malignancy.
  • Dr. Storkus’ lab is engaging in cutting edge research involving multiple facets of tumor biology, including normalization of the vasculature and other novel pathways for inhibition of tumor growth.
  • Dr. You’s lab is investigating the relationship between endogenous danger signals (‘alarmins’) and tumor growth.
